Daruma is the name of a monk Bodhidharma who created Zen Buddhism in Japan, it is now a famous lucky charm. The ritual is to draw the first eye when making a wish and the second when the wish has been granted. They are sold around all Buddhist temples in Japan.
Usually made of paper mache, this one was handmade with clay around 1970.
